North County San Diego's Oldest Independent Bike Dealership, Leucadia Cyclery, Looks To The Future With New Ownership

A longtime local resident and business entrepreneur Jeffrey Schade has recently made a significant investment in the San Diego business community by purchasing the city's oldest independent bike dealership. Leucadia Cyclery, founded in 1974, has been a staple of the local cycling scene for nearly five decades and has built a loyal following of customers from first-time casual bicyclists to elite competitive athletes.

Schade, who has lived in North County for over 20 years, is a passionate outdoorsman himself and has dreamed of owning his own retail space after a long history of managing and consulting for large national and international retail chains. He jumped at the opportunity when he heard that Leucadia Cyclery was looking for a buyer. "I've always loved being on two wheels, and I know this shop has been such an important part of the neighborhood and county," Schade said. "I couldn't pass up the chance to be a part of it and help build it back to its glory days. Being a part of this community is as important to me as the business profits at the end of the day."

Schade plans to continue the store's tradition of selling and servicing high-quality bikes and providing excellent customer service with a welcoming atmosphere. He also hopes to expand the store's offerings to include more quality brands, a wider assortment, and new innovations in the space. There will be extra love put towards the service side of the business including expansion of e-bike offerings and e-bike service. "I want to see Leucadia Cyclery return to being a hub for the cycling community in San Diego," Schade said. "I want people to come here not just to buy or rent equipment, but to talk to shop with other cyclists, get advice on routes, learn safe cycling for the expanding youth/e-bike movement, and expand on the heritage brand with a bespoke touch."

The acquisition has been met with excitement from the local cycling community, eager to see what changes Schade will bring to the store. "I've been a customer of this shop for years, and I'm thrilled to see it in the hands of someone who is so passionate about building community around a healthy activity for all experience levels," said local cyclist Jason G. "I can't wait to see what Jeff does with it."

Schade has already begun his outreach with the community and has planned improvements to the in-store experience, including updating the physical and online presence, creating a hub for group rides, and collaborating with other local businesses. Leucadia Cyclery will be open for business as usual during the transition and updates. San Diego's oldest independent bike dealership is located at 823 Vulcan Ave, Encinitas, and is open seven days a week.
